# Kit

> The drum kit: its pieces, a line each, and the kit setting.

The drum kit is one instrument, and each piece of it has a line of its own. A kit piece's line holds [`steps`](https://pkhambat.mintlify.site/drums/steps).

| Name | Kit piece |
| - | - |
| `kick` | Bass drum |
| `snare` | Snare drum |
| `snare.ghost` | Snare ghost notes |
| `snare.rim` | Rimshot |
| `snare.cross` | Cross-stick |
| `hat` | Closed hi-hat |
| `hat.open` | Open hi-hat. Rings until the next `hat` or `hat.pedal`. |
| `hat.pedal` | Hi-hat played with the foot |
| `ride` | Ride cymbal |
| `ride.bell` | Ride bell |
| `crash` | Crash cymbal |
| `tom.high` | High tom |
| `tom.low` | Low tom |
| `tom.floor` | Floor tom |

## kit

`set kit rock` or `set kit synth` chooses the kit. `rock`, the default, is a recorded kit, loaded from the network on first use. `synth` is synthesized and works offline. On a [`with`](https://pkhambat.mintlify.site/language/settings#with), a block can play the other kit.
